Biography

Hello.

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy my site.

in his own words, a bit about the grouchy grouter

I live in the beautiful Peak District National Park, in the same house where I grew up. I'm recently retired but for the past 51 years. I've been a hairstylist and also owned my own salon in Sheffield while living in the city.

Since 2005 I’ve been designing of one of our village's five well dressings - which is exactly like doing a mosaic but with natural materials such as petals, leaves and moss instead of tiles. To learn more about the process and history of this local tradition.

In Febuary 2019, my wife Diane and I visited New Zealand for the second time and stumbled across the Giants House

in Akaroa near Christchurch.

It's garden is full of mosaics created by the

NZ artist Josie Martin.

and this inspired me to start doing my own mosaics, even booking a course with Mango Mosaics  while still on holiday!  www.mangomosaics.co.uk

The course gave me the confidence and skills to start to create my own mosaics and since lockdown has given us all more time to be at home, this hobby is filling my life more and more now and the term ‘man in his shed’ is very apt!
